HOW TO GET FREE WEBSITE TRAFFIC

Copyright 2005 East Tech LLC

There are many ways to get free web site traffic to your website or business promotion. One of the best ways is the use of free traffic exchanges. These exchanges allow you to submit your website into the rotation with hundreds, or thousands of other websites for the membership of that particular traffic exchange. Some traffic exchanges are better than others, so you need to make sure the ones you choose, are best for you and your business.

Needless to say, you want to pick a free traffic exchange that has lots of members so there’s much more exposure to your websites, sales pages or affiliate programs. You also want to make sure the audience would be more likely to purchase your product or service you’re trying to sell. For example, if you’re selling antique dolls and the free traffic exchange you’re joining is made up of 95% webmaster business opportunities, then your chances of selling something are slim to none. You need to know your market.

A free traffic exchange offers webmasters the ability to promote their websites or affiliate marketing campaigns for free, or at very low cost. The idea is to surf around other members websites, and for each viewing, you get so many of your own URLs and banners added into the rotation for other members to view. There are hundreds, if not thousands of free traffic exchanges online today. The trick is to find the ones that work best for you. Not all free traffic exchanges are created equal and the most active ones are not necessarily the best ones for your needs.

Free traffic exchanges are a great marketing tool for a variety of reasons. The most obvious reason is that you get lots of people looking, and hopefully clicking on your website or promotional pages. But there are hidden benefits to free traffic exchanges you may not have even considered.

Some free traffic exchanges may convert sales like crazy for one person, and be a complete waste of time for another. If everyone were promoting the same website or affiliate program is the same traffic exchange for example, then chances are you would not make many sales. Even if you were promoting the #1 thing on the internet, if everyone promoted the same program, your chances are much lower that someone will purchase through your website or link to make you any money. Also, when people see the same ad over and over again, they get desensitized to it. Don't fall into this trap. It's one thing to try and sell a very popular product/service/ebook etc, but it's another thing when a million other people are trying to do it too. Competition is a good thing, because it validates your market, but too much competition is tough and it's time to move on to something else. We all know clicking on ads in a free traffic exchange can be very boring, monotonous and can take a lot of time. That's why you need to make the best of your opportunity or you will just be wasting a lot of your time and effort on something that just isn't working. If you have your own niche website, then you already differentiated yourself from the pack. If you are an affiliate marketer, then you need to find products/services that everyone else isn't promoting, especially within that particular traffic exchange.

One way to use free traffic exchanges to your advantage is to join a few at first, and see if your sales pick up. If your sales aren’t doing well, then test out a few more. When you do find a few traffic exchanges that appear to be generating sales for you, then narrow those down until you find the one, or two that are working. Now concentrate your efforts on those because they’re the ones you want. At least for now. Things may change, so keep an eye on your campaigns and if sales seem to be falling off, then it might be time to change your offer or find another traffic exchange that could pick your profits up again. As I mentioned, your individual promotion is everything. If you're trying to promote something everyone else is, I don't care what traffic exchange service you're using, your sales conversions are going to be very low, or nothing at all. You cannot always blame the exchange. Sometimes you have to look at yourself and think if you're doing all you can to make sales.

If you're going to be using multiple free traffic exchanges, and I recommend that you do, your first priority should be to pick up a multi-tab web browser. Many of these browsers are free and run on PCs and MACs. The tabs feature allows you to have one web browser open with multiple tabs each going to a separate website. You could easily put 5 or 6 of your free exchange sites in these tabs, and earn credits for all of them at the same time. So instead of surfing for 1/2 an hour or an hour earning 200 hits for one exchange, you could earn 200 hits for 5 exchanges in the same amount of time. This is a huge time saver and multiplies your earned hits by 5X or 6X.

Getting free traffic to your website can be a lot of work. If you don’t have the money to spend on full blown PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns like Google AdWords, free traffic exchanges are a great way to get the traffic you need to get visitors to your site and close the sale.

KEYWORDS: THEY UNLOCK ALL THE RIGHT DOORS

Keywords: They Unlock All The Right Doors

Are you missing out on some great five-cent traffic? Did you know that by bidding on variations of popular keywords you can grab hundreds or even thousands of visitors that your competitors didn't even consider?

Why Keywords Are So Important

What is a keyword? The answer is simple... It's what a user types when they are searching for something they want on the Internet.

If you want to dress up as Darth Vader and buy the outfit online, you could go to Google and search for the merchandise you need. But what would you type? Maybe Darth Vader Helmet? Or Darth Vader Mask? Or would you type Mask + Darth Vader? How about Darth Vader costume or Darth Vader Adult Costume? What if you misspelled Darth Vader?

As an online consumer, chances are you would keep typing variations of what you wanted until you saw what you were looking for. Well wouldn't it be nice if a company had exactly what you wanted and you saw their ad the first time you typed your query?

As a vendor using Google Adwords, you can't afford to miss opportunities like this. If you were selling Darth Vader Masks, you sure don't want your prospect to type Dark Vader Masks and NOT see your ad. Do You?

So, it's important to load up your Ad Groups with keywords that real people are typing when searching for things online.

How can you anticipate what people will type? Well, there are a few websites that can help you out. Maybe you've heard of them: Overture and Google.

Many people are familiar with Overture's search term suggestion tool. You can find it here: http://inventory.overture.com. It's a great tool for estimating demand of specific keywords. You can compare the number of searches for one keyword with another and you can also see popular search phrases that contain your keyword.

For example, if you type Darth Vader into Overture. Your results may include: darth vader, darth vader costume, darth vader picture, darthvader wall paper, darth vader helmet, and so on. Plus you'll see numbers next to each term telling you how many searches were run with that key word or phrase. The numbers may or may not be accurate, but in relation to each other, they give you a good benchmark of which phrase is typed more often.

One of the biggest complaints people seem to have with overture's tool is that it lumps together singulars and plurals and often alphabetizes the words in a phrase so you don't know if people are typing "vader helmet" or "helmet vader". Another complaint is that you are not given any results unless they contain your term (ex. Darth Vader). Therefore, you might miss out on keywords containing a synonym for Darth Vader like Anakin.

To help with what Overture lacks, a lot of people are using Google's Keyword Tool found here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox. It's much more specific about the order of words, singulars and plurals AND also suggests related terms that may or may not contain your original phrase. The downfall that most people mention is the lack of numerical data to give an idea of how many searches are performed for each term.

A quick use of Google's tool provides similar results to Overture, but also includes terms like lightsaber, anakin, comic, count dooku, and sidious.

If you want the best of both worlds in one spot, you can use a tool like WordTracker found here: http://www.theadtool.com/wordtracker. This very useful tool will give you counts from most search engines, distinguish between singular and plural, and offer related terms with their counts. It also provides an index number called KEI to give you an idea on how competitive certain terms are (mostly for organic search engine marketing).

Regardless of which tools you use, it's critical that you grab hundreds of keyword variations and put them into your ad groups. If you don't, you're probably missing out on some very low priced terms and might even be missing out on what everyone is typing when searching. If you know the story of the insurance companies promoting auto insurance instead of car insurance, then you can certainly see the importance of including related terms.

8 KILLING METHODS TO INCREASE YOUR TRAFFIC

How many methods you know to increase your site traffic?

Do you know 3, 7, or 14 ways to get visitors?
I don't know your numbers...but I have some killing methods you can use to grow your traffic!

1) Write articles and submit them to e-zines, web sites and magazines that accept article submissions. Include your business information and web address at the end of the article.

2) Form an online community. It could be an online message board, e-mail discussion list or chat room. When people get involved in your community they will regularly return to communicate with others.

3) Start an e-zine for your web site. When people read each issue they'll be reminded to revisit your web site. They'll see your product ad more than just once which will increase your orders.

4) Give away an electronic freebie with your ad on it. Allow your visitors to also give the freebie away. This'll increase your ad exposure and attract people to your web site at the same time.

5) Trade links with other web sites. They should be related to the subject of your web site. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page ads, classified ads, etc.

6) Combine your products or services into one big package deal with other businesses offerings. You could share a web site and advertise the package deal; which means double the traffic.

7) Participate on message boards. Post answers to other people's questions, ask questions and post appropriate information. Include your signature file at the end of all your postings.

8) Exchange classified or sponsor ads with other free e-zine publishers. If there is a huge subscriber difference between e-zines, one can run more ads to make up for it.

Great.
